Jesse Kewley-Graham reflects on his time with Speller. He talks about his journey into SAP recruitment, what he's learned in his first few months and what he believes are Speller's best assets.

My recruitment journey started 10 years ago in London, finding my niche in the technology industry and then by the time I had moved to Australia in 2020, I had already worked across different countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong. This was an invaluable lesson for me as it helped me build relationships amongst different cultures and adapt to different working environments.

9 weeks ago, I embarked on a journey at Speller and dived headfirst into the world of SAP. The rich history of Speller has made it somewhat easier to learn and grasp the fundamentals of SAP and their industry knowledge has been vitality important for my learning and development.

Modesty is a word that resonates with Speller within ANZ; however, I am here to show case our successes, learnings, and why this reputable organisation is different from the rest.

My role

My role in Business Development / Account Management is to ensure that we provide the highest quality of service to new and existing clients across ANZ where we identify the pain points and solve problems by providing them the best talent to ensure their projects are achieved to the highest standards.

Our Community

Our network and connections are our biggest asset, with over 24 years in SAP recruitment, Speller has only and will only be an SAP resourcing company. Many of our staff have been here for over 10 years which shows loyalty, dedication to their field but most of all the friendships built within the workplace. Most recruitment agencies say that they are experts in their field, however, Spellers undeniable dedication to SAP recruitment shines way above others.

We have a well-known presence within the industry, as we are the only SAP resourcing recruitment company that sponsors the SAUG, we host multiple technology roundtables and outings, meet ups and events: this includes our recent “Christmas in July” party with one of our good customers

Where we sit

Sometimes Speller can be categorised into certain roles across SAP, however, I want to ensure that people know we provide a full service across the whole landscape, from Technical & Functional Consultants, Project & Program Management, Business Analysis, Data Analytics, Architecture and Advisory.

We are not just a recruitment agency. We partner with our clients to ensure the project runs smoothly, by saving time, money and resources. We have the network and the knowledge to connect clients together who are going through similar implementations.

In my personal experience, this is the only recruitment company that I have seen do this, which shows our dedication and commitment to the community.

Our operating model is different to others, we have dedicated Business Development Managers that solely focus on building new and existing relationships to finding opportunities and we have dedicated Delivery Consultants that are purely find candidates. Everyone is 100% focused to delivering their duties, whether that be identifying the next SAP implementation and building relationships, or talent pooling a pipeline of candidates and filling opportunities across many of our jobs. We’ve created an environment where we all share the same outcome and by doing this, worksin sync.

What I’ve learned so far

I’ve talked about our success for a while, but there are also learnings in my time. The SAP industry is a vast beast which most of you know, so it has taken some time to get up to speed with the modules and acronyms. I would have loved to hit the ground running speaking to clients about all the modules, however, it is not realistic. The positives of working with colleagues who are experts in the field, and sitting next to them daily has only been a plus for me and my learnings. I am now comfortable liaising with candidates and clients understanding their needs and wants to ensure we provide the best service possible.

Some may ask why I decided to write this piece?

I wrote this blog to show the market why we are different from others and how we go above and beyond to help our clients. Recruitment is all about relationships and for over 24 years Speller have shown this in abundance.

What’s next

2027 is the date that is driving the SAP industry at the moment, where SAP intends to end their support of ECC and push all customers towards SAP S/4HANA, with the clear intention obvious by now that SAP’s true direction is to have everybody on Cloud in the not-too-distant future after that.

Speller International can help organisations throughout Australia and New Zealand by providing resources, sharing knowledge and market information, and add value to the SAP community who are embarking on this journey.

I, along with some of the well-known Speller team will be attending the SAUG conference in Sydney on the 19th of August so please come and speak to our team as we’d love to connect with new and existing customers.
