Meet the Team - Catherine Challes
Posted on August 2022 By Speller International
Last week Speller welcomed Catherine Challes the Delivery team straight off a flight from London. In this weeks blog we learn what she’s enjoyed about Melbourne so far, what her goals are both professionally and personally, and what her role at Speller involves.
What is your role at Speller? What does an average day involve?
I have joined Speller as a Delivery Consultant, my day to day will involve engaging with candidates in the SAP market; understanding their challenges, what they’re looking for and ultimately finding them the right opportunity.
Tell us a bit about your professional background.
I initially started in Engineering recruitment straight after university, building my desk from scratch and dealing with both the candidate and client side. After 5 years I then moved into Government and Defence work, specifically within the IT sector. This involved working with a small team to grow our presence in the Defence sector, working on secure, classified government projects.
What are you enjoying about your role at Speller?
The team! Having moved over from the UK I’ve had continuous help and support from the team, not just in a professional capacity but personal questions and queries. I wouldhave struggled to move without them!
Where do we find you in your downtime?
Likely outside, going onbig, long walks with a coffee and pastry; followed by a large glass of red wine in the pub, ideally by the fire! I have already attended several sporting events since arriving so you will also find me in one of the stadiums watching AFL and NRL games over the weekend. I am also partial to any adrenaline filled activities, most recently, I have been white water rafting and did the largest bungee jump in South America.
What's your favourite part of Australia?
I am still exploring Melbourne having only just arrived! But so far, I’ve really enjoyed the Botanical gardens, Queen Victoria food market, brunch in South Yarra and wrapping up and walking along the beach in St Kilda.
What does 2022 hold both professionally and personally for you?
Professionally - I need to build a solid understanding of the SAP market, add value and become an integral part of the Speller team!
Personally - Adventure! I left life behind in England to come and explore this side of the world. I plan to get on as many planes as possible, and I’m very excited to get stuck into some new sporting activities and generally see what Melbourne has to offer.
